West Des Moines Water Works is a full service water utility. The department operates a municipal water treatment plant that consists of iron removal, softening, filtration, disinfection and a state certified laboratory. The city of West Des Moines incorporated in October 1893, governs the Water Works Department. It is one of the fastest growing communities in Iowa. Area Development Magazine honored the city of West Des Moines by naming it as one of the Most Attractive Metros for Business in its August/September 2010 issue.
