The Voice and Viewpoint is the backbone of the African American community in San Diego, California. It provides a base to work from and a forum to bring positive change and recognition. It has done a lot of that over the years. I was born and raised in San Diego and I have seen the progress, thanks to the Voice and Viewpoint Newspaper. Crucial issues such as African American union membership and the African American student union at SDSU that address equality and justice are a couple among many that are addressed through the Voice and Viewpoint Newspaper. Let it be known how few African Americans are members of the Plumbers, for example, where the wages are very high, the skills learned through their apprentice program are unheard of but very respectable, and that there exists a base to work from for African Americans at SDSU to help insure fair treatment and successful graduation for those who follow W.E.B. Dubois' direction as opposed to Booker T. Washington's. Ernest Epps.
