Nothing "Disconnected" Here!

Red, modern, and Chic!!!! For a salon in North Park, conventional wisdom speaks volumes on the peril mixing business and pleasure, as if the two made some volatile ammonia meets bleach combination. But a certain sterilization attaches itself to these platitudes, a non-modernity. Over the terrain of life styles, pleasure and business are all but a deadly concoction, an integration Neil Hughes, co-owner of Disconnected, lives with.

Unlike many salons, which push creative boundaries with artwork on the walls, Disconnected is a cultural gymnasium. Far from simply adding color to the space between work stations, the artist who produced adorning pieces get a once every quarter art show, which also involves DJs, alcohol sponsors and raffles. On the more everyday, an assortment of clothes and other adorners await in the first of two waiting areas. The second, a few yards from the front desk and separated by a curtain made from signature elongated O’s, looks much like a bar. Well, looks much like and is get separated by the sheer quality that no alcohol is sold, instead it’s given away. For those not in the mood, coffee, wheat grass and wine also avails. Completing Disconnected’s avant aesthetic, a crimson red ceiling, opened to capture an industrial style.

But the artistic promulgations do not stop with interior design, Neil makes certain that each customer will receive an individuated style by requiring that stylists first be licensed and then complete a 9 month to year assistant program, which involves watching the current stylists, shampooing and blow drying hair. A successful program, as all about the salon customers and stylists can be heard discussing the dimensions and suitability of certain styles, playing with the choices available. Without a doubt, Disconnected Salon mixes hair treatment with culture and art.

BEST Salon in SD

I will start by saying I have serious trust issues with hair stylists because I have had bad experiences in the past, but this is by far the best salon I have ever been to. I saw Sarah and she is AMAZING. She totally listened to what I wanted and we had the same vision for my hair. She was really knowledgable and told me all about the product she was using and how I needed to maintain my cut/color. She also gave me the best haircut I have ever had! The decor is so cute and everyone was super friendly and awesome. It is not cheap but it's worth every penny, and they have a great student discount too. Only downside is maybe that they only stock Bumble and Bumble but even then Sarah showed me some great new product that I had never considered using before and I am sold. This is definitely my salon now.
