Our foursome went to dinner expecting fresh seafood since Raleigh is only about 100 miles from the Atlantic... not even close. Just to clarify, I am not a picky eaters, neither were the others... it really takes a LOT for me to be this critical... and to take the time to write this review. There was only 1 piece of fresh seafood out of 2 appetizers and 4 meals! I ordered a broiled platter... which at 42nd st. translates as BLAND.. no salt or pepper even! It was awful. The bread that came with the crab dip was dry and bland... and the soft shell crabs where 1/3 the regular size! I really don't mind paying for a great meal... but $35/person for such bland, unappealing and frozen seafood NO THANK YOU. Even the sodas and water had a metallic taste. The ONLY good thing about this place is free hush puppies... and I think Long John Silvers beats there free hush puppies. The place had a great atmosphere, but truly, the food was disgusting. We left more than disappointed. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

This is a very good resturant and they make a great broiled catfish

42nd Street has a large selection of seafood and I especially enjoy their steamed offerings. My only complaint is that you have to sit at the bar to eat oysters, they won't serve them in other parts of the dining area. They usually have pretty good entertainment on the weekends too.

42nd Street Oyster Bar has the best steamed oysters I have ever tasted. My husband and I will sit at the bar and get a peak and boy are they good....yum....o. Their other dishes are great also. Whether it is broiled or fried you can't go wrong. Their clam chowder is good also. There are many picks so you can't go wrong. I would highly recommend you giving 42nd Street a try, you won't regret it. The service is always great.
