Do not order furniture from Ca...

Do not order furniture from Carson's Wood Furnishings in Manayunk!

Let me tell you about my very horrible experience getting furniture from Carson’s and the extremely sh*tty customer service that went with it. Basically, we ordered a bedroom set and were told it would take 8-10 weeks to come in, at week 19 we still didn't have all the pieces! The owner offered no apologies and only lame excuses. The full story is below for anyone interested.

We bought our first house and were in need of furniture for practically every room in the house, especially our bedroom since we now have no closet space. We’ve gotten a couple of pieces of furniture before from Carson’s and really liked the style and prices. We went in and found some bedroom furniture that we really liked, but they didn’t have all the pieces in stock so the owner recommended that we order in all the pieces so the wood stain would match up on each piece. I should have realized something was fishy when the owner insisted that I pay the full purchase price upfront.

We ordered our bedroom furniture mid-August, expecting to have it delivered about the time we moved into our new place, mid-October. We were told it would take 8-10 weeks to get the furniture in. I called about 4 weeks after we placed our order to see if the delivery was still on schedule. I was told the furniture was already on the boat and was right on schedule.

At week 8, I called again to see if the furniture came in, I was told it would be couple of more weeks.

At week 10, we decided to go into the store to find out what was going on since we hadn't heard anything. The owner said it would be another couple of weeks because the shipping container needed to be filled before it shipped out (wait, I thought it was on the boat 6 weeks ago). My husband then asked what exactly a couple of weeks meant, we were told at least 3 weeks. I asked if we can take the floor models, and was told that he could not give us the floor models because he needed them to sell more furniture. Ok, fine, we'll wait another few weeks and hopefully have ours. He did have extras of the night stands, so we took them with us.

Ok, so now at week 13 (mid-November), one month after we were expecting our bedroom furniture, I call again to see if the delivery came it. Guess what, there were some logistical issues and the delivery is not expected until the second week in December. So, the owner says we can pick up the floor models after Thanksgiving weekend.

Week 15, we get our two (dusty, dirty) dressers, now we only need the mirror to go above the dresser.

Week 19, (4th week of December) I call to see if the mirror has come in, since again I have not heard anything. The shipment is in a NYC dock, but there is a looming threat of strike, so the shipment might not come in until the next week. Oh, so the threat of a strike has caused the 9 week shipping delay, completely acceptable excuse, so not offering apology at week 19 is completely fine.

Though I really wanted a mirror to match the dresser, I decide to go in and just ask for a refund for the mirrors a couple of days later. I was tired of being given excuse after excuse. He tells me the shipment will be coming in next week. Sure it is…but I don’t care, just give me my money back. As I was anticipating, the owner tells me the mirror was essentially thrown in for free, which it most definitely was not. He does end up giving us a full refund for the mirror. Thank god, now I can just move on and never step foot in Carson’s again.

It is totally unacceptable to give someone a bogus timeline and to never offer one apology. Now I know to never, ever pay for anything upfront. Carson – you are a horrible business man and need to get your act together. I am very glad that Nadeau has opened up down the street and have already found a few great things there.
