Matthew Treiser, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and chief of microsurgery and extremity reconstruction at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. He specializes in plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery for cancer-related and non-cancer related injuries. He has advanced training and expertise in breast reconstruction and general hand surgery, orthopedic hand surgery and plastic hand surgery. After a mastectomy or lumpectomy for breast cancer, Dr. Treiser performs breast reconstruction surgery to restore form and function. He excels in advanced techniques and complex procedures such as breast resensation surgery, which restores feeling to breasts after a mastectomy. Dr. Treiser has also participated in multiple hand transplant surgeries and was a member of the surgery team that performed the first penile transplant in the United States. His work and research have been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Treiser joined Miami Cancer Institute from the Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. While there, he served as an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as hand and microsurgery. Dr. Treiser earned his medical degree at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He completed a plastic surgery residency at Harvard University, Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and a hand surgery fellowship at MedStar Union Memorial – The Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore. He also holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering. Dr. Treiser focuses on providing leading-edge technological procedures that treat each patient individually. He takes time to get to know his patients and believes personalized care leads to better outcomes. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Treiser enjoys snowboarding, golfing, running and traveling.
