Established in 1939, Wiregrass Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electrical service provider that serves more than 22,000 consumers in Houston, Geneva, Dale, Coffee and Covington counties in Alabama. It operates from its district offices in Dothan, Ashford and Samson, Ala., and runs approximately 4,000 miles of line. The cooperative provides a range of energy saving appliances, such as surge suppression devices, generators, fluorescent bulbs, and electric grills and smokers. Wiregrass Electric Cooperative operates the Auto-Meter Program, which upgrades and installs automated meters that can be read by a remote computer. It also runs the H2O Plus program, which offers water heaters equipped with energy-efficient water devices. The cooperative offers online utility bill payment, account access, safety instruction, and service subscription, cancellation and transfer. It is involved in community development activities and provides educational scholarships to high school children. Wiregrass Electric Cooperative is located in Hartford, Ala.
