From 1993 to 2015, Art Laske represented the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut’s largest city, as an Assistant City Attorney and later as Deputy City Attorney. - Sex CrimesBoard of Education of the City of Bridgeport v. St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company, 261 Conn. 37 (2002). A case of first impression in Connecticut arising from the denial of insurance coverage by the defendant for a sexual assault that took place after students disembarked from a bus operated by the defendant’s insured. Attorney Laske filed a declaratory judgment for coverage in state court, which was later removed to the United States District Court. After cross-motions for summary judgment were filed in the District Court, the federal judge certified the issue presented to the Connecticut Supreme Court for an opinion. The Supreme Court ruled that Attorney Laske’s client was entitled to coverage pursuant to the policy. This matter was featured in the

- Restraining OrderSuperior Court Judge Christine F. Vertefeuille granted a temporary restraining order, after which the state successfully intervened as a defendant. Following a hearing at which witnesses testified that they would no be able to afford housing without state support, Vertefeuille denied a request for permanent injunction. She found that the plaintiffs failed to prove a likelihood of success on their claim that the state has a constitutional obligation to provide subsistence benefits.
