This place is amazing. I received a new pistol for graduation back in May and wanted to make sure I knew how to use it effectively and safely... I went from not even knowing what a double action was to having a different range show interest in hiring me as a shooting instructor after seeing videos of my training online - from about 4-6 months of training only. I can't give enough praise to this place. The range is incredible and offers unique training opportunities that indoor ranges cannot. I've trained with Dan for each of my courses - he rocks. If it wasn't for Dan and VX I would still be clueless about my own pistol, double action? What's that?

Ive been training with Dan for the last couple of years, everything from pistol, carbine, and precision rifle. I am completely impressed with the level of professionalism, I have witnessed from Dan, and his other instructors. There is no BS with them, they maintain, a safe, professional training environment, that allows students there to excel. The staff there does this with a great attitude, that I have never seen with other gun ranges and training facilities. Now for the training. No bones about it, if you want to learn everything there is to know about gun handling and being able to accurately place bullets where you want them under any situation you can think of, this is the place you need to be. the courses are extremely smooth and flowing, and filled with real world knowledge. I highly recommend VX Marksmanship

I have signed up for the 10 session Precision Rifle course and just completed the first 2 sessions. Dan is an excellent instructor and knows his subject matter stone cold! The current classroom is a bit spartan, but a new facility and location are coming next year. The training is first class, from subject matter, to safety procedures, to range set-up and shooting exercises. The syllabus of upcoming lessons tells me I am in exactly the right place to learn to shoot accurately out to 1000 yards, and not just from a bench. VX has multiple course options available and experienced and knowledgable instructors to teach them. If you want to take your marksmanship to a much higher level, don't overlook VX Marksmanship in Alvarado, TX!

I recently spent several hours in Precision Rifle class with Dan at VX Marksmanship in Alvaredo, Texas. I cannot over-emphasize the quality of the training and the value. Value wise, I was impressed with the amount of training I received in a few hours. Some of the courses have a classroom component, but the learning that goes on during the classroom time is essential to master the firearm you are using.

I originally purchased five classes to take advantage of the benefits Dan offers for multi-class purchases which include a discounted price and access to other training he offers.

VX Marksmanship offers Precision Rifle classes, Pistol classes, Carbine classes and others. Purchasing five or more classes do not bind a student to a single course of study. For example, I intend to use one of my classes for carbine and one for pistol.

Dan is very professional and knowledgeable. Safety is always paramount, and the curriculum is designed to offer increased rigor as a student progresses from class to class. I recommend VX Marksmanship to any shooter, regardless of skill level, who wants to master his or her firearm.

This it THE place you will want to go train. Period. No question about it. Dan loads of actual military experience and is simply the best instructor I have ever trained under. Any time and money spent training here is time and money well spent.

I just spent a day at the VX Marksmanship range with the owner Dan. We spent several hours on the range shooting several types of weapons. There were at least a dozen people involved. I am writing this because i just read a negative review which I believe should be addressed. Obviously I was not there when this incident occurred. I did though spend the afternoon with Dan. My impression of Dan is that he is a very dedicated professional at what he does and his main concern on the range is that everyone stays safe. From my experience, as long as everybody listened and followed a few simple safety rules there is not a problem. I cant imagine that he would not have asked this person to leave unless there were some serious safety concerns. I would go back anytime and take my family. I also drove a thousand miles to do this.

I have been training with Dan at VX Marksmanship for over a year now. I have trained with many other well known firearms instructors throughout my 11 years as a police officer and Dan is one of the very best! I recommend VX to all my family and friends because of the level of excellence, quality of instruction and professionalism that you receive when training there! In regards to the negative review - I have only seen Dan ever ask one other person to leave a course and it was very warranted. I was not there when this happened but I know that Dan made that decision with the best interest of the students in mind. I think it takes a lot of internal fortitude and speaks volumes to Dan's character to ask someone to stop training for the safety of everyone at the range, considering this is his way of making a living. For him to put the safety of others ahead of his personal gain is one of the many things that will keep me and my family returning to VX!

VX is an excellent place to become an excellent shooter. One does not become an incredibly accurate shooter in just one weekend though. Like anything in life, it takes time and practice as well as knowledge. VX gives you all of these-TIME, PRACTICE and KNOWLEDGE. I have been going for over six months now and I HIGHLY recommend this to any shooter from a novice to anyone who feels they are already proficient. No matter what level you are, with the individualized training you get at VX, there is no question you will walk away with some new knowledge and/or technique! One of the main things I respect about VX is their commitment to safety. As fun as the training is, SAFETY is ALWAYS first. I feel there is more to the other posters story then he is revealing. HITTING the wrong target is quite different than MISSING the right target by 12 inches. When you start to play the long distance game, missing by 12 inches at 100 yards, is missing by 6 ft at 500, and that IS DANGEROUS. Again, you may already be a good shot, but when you are shooting from various positions, under pressure (time and simulated hunting scenarios) you quickly learn what REAL proficiency is. As far as learning the wind calls and other things, VX DOES teach those. I know, I have been taught, and shot with others that have been taught, but again, knowing is only half the battle.... You cannot learn to drive a Formula 1 race car without learning how to handle a basic car first. You need PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE... (I probably need a few more practices in there actually).... you need to build the higher skills on top of the lower skills and those on the fundamental ones. I am sorry this poster had a bad experience, but from the multiple people I have met that have been to VX and I have shot with, he is the first I have heard with a negative review. I HIGHLY recommend this training to anyone...

I highly recommend VX Marksmanship and have referred several friends. I am an experienced pistol shooter with no training and a beginner in rifle shooting and have taken 2Tactical Pistol and 3 Precision Rifle courses. The training was outstanding and improvement was immediately apparent.

As for the negative review above, I wouldn't pay any attention to what is clearly sour grapes. I was in the same class as the gentleman above. After he consistently did not follow commands with such regularity that the range had a very apparent and reasonable safety concern, they invited him to continue the class but stated they couldn't allow him to continue to live fire. As an attorney, I can understand how the range needs to protect itself from liability in such instances and, as a patron, I appreciate Dan looking out for the safety of his class members by not letting a class member who very obviously was not paying attention run around half cocked with a loaded rifle.

As an instructor, Dan is highly knowledgeable and very effective. Highly recommend. A++++.

I drove 1,000 miles to go to this place to learn precision long distance rifle shooting. Never got data for over 300 yards, there was no formula for wind other that estimation by site??? This is coming from a man who states he was a sniper in military. Then he has the gull to kick me out because I shot a target 12 inches away from where he told me. Others shot multiple time at targets 50 - 150 yards away from their original assigned targets and never got reprimanded. What kind of CRAZY is this?? Will never go back. Disgusted beyond. Went with my son and this is Father's Day. Dan, same to you buddy!
