General Info
We opened our doors for business in 1892 on Charles Street, Boston, near the Public Gardens. Eventually, we moved to our current location in the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline. This was immediately after the first World War. At that time, the Coolidge Brothers still operated their general store at the intersection of the two major streets and catered to the increasing, affluent carriage trade of the time ( I assume the well-off were called the carriage trade because they were the ones who could afford to ride, while the majority walked ). Brookline, you must understand, is really part of Boston, at least geographically. We are surrounded on three sides by Boston, but cling to our own government - a representative town meeting. During the early 1800's when Boston started to gobble up and incorporate it's suburbs, Brookline was the only hold-out and remains so to this day. To the rest of the world, we are proud Bostonians, except when they inevitably do something foolish, you will please remember, we are from Brookline! Since World War I, over 90+ years, we've never been more than a few hundred feet from where we were - physically. However, we're miles and miles away in product and technology. Think of it, when we were founded, horse and buggies were the rule and popular songs had lyrics like "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer true..." and "It's a long way to Tipperary". Now we look for high-impact, shock absorbing materials for the soles, and can you customize the inside of each shoe for an individual fit. And do you really want to discuss the change in music? So come in and take a look around. When you're ready to buy, give us a call and you'll get the expertise and knowledge of over 100 years helping you out.
