I received services here. My specimen was taken and forwarded to contracted Laboratory. My insurance is stellar with a very minimal out of pocket.

Imagine my surprise, over a year later, when I received a summons stating that I owe over $4000 to the contracted lab. I have 20 days to respond and the claim is over a year old. My insurance will not pay it.

I contacted the lab, who stated that the requisition received with my specimen listed me as a Self-Pay (uninsured Patient). That's odd considering Eastside Endoscopy had my insurance information. My insurance was billed and they paid for my services with Eastside Endoscopy. Glad that E. Endoscopy was able to receive payment...

I contacted and spoke with Sara at E. Endoscopy. She confirmed that on the date of service, they had my insurance information and she doesn't understand how this could have happened as the protocol followed is if any information is missing, the contracted lab contacts them and inquires for missing info. She stated that a copy of the Patient's Registration along with a copy of the insurance card is included with the requisition. I informed Sara that they would have no reason to call if the Patient is listed as uninsured.

I requested a copy of the requisition. She stated sure. As she began to confirm the mailing address, I inquired if she could fax or email. She stated no, as there was not a release on file. I inquired as to how she could mail the info but not fax. She stated that she was mailing the release, which I would then mail back. Upon its receipt, then she would mail out on the requisition. I reiterated the time constraints. She mockingly stated that she understood, but was unable to do so, due to privacy laws. I inquired if I would be able to come down to the office, sign the waiver and receive the requisition at the same time. She stated yes. This begs the question, if you understand the time constraint and can at least have some humanity and understand the situation that I’m in, why don’t you rack your tiny brain for any sort of resolution that could assist me? Oh, that’s right, because you don’t care.

This will be the last time that I, my family and any of my friends patronize this pathetic, reprehensible excuse for a business. Their lack of morality and ineptitude is a disgrace to the medical community. Sara’s patronizing tone is an apt reflection of what E. Endoscopy has to offer. While most of us are at the whim of where our physicians send us, we can adamantly state that we will not continue to support a business that is incapable of providing concrete answers and resolutions. Ask to go somewhere else. It’s not that hard to take a sample and mail it out.
