      General Info
      Dr. Frederick J. Fletcher is a life long resident of the Capital District. He graduated from Albany Medical College in 1986. At Albany Medical Center Hospital he completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery during which he developed a special interest in total hip and knee replacements. He further refined his skills in this area by completing a Fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 1992. After his fellowship, Dr. Fletcher began his practice of Orthopaedic Surgery in Albany and is currently on the staff of most of the hospitals in the Albany and Troy area. He is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners since 1987. He has been Board Certified by the American Board of of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1994 and was re-certified for an additional ten years in 2003. He has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons since February 1996. Dr. Fletcher is also a member of the Eastern Orthopaedic Society since 1997. Dr. Fletcher has published several articles on Amputations and Leg Reconstruction. He has given several lectures at national orthopaedic meetings about total hip and knee replacement. Dr. Fletcher is the only physician in Northeastern New York performing the MIS 2-incision Total Hip Replacement. He has had tremendous success with patients using this new surgical technique. He has also been recently trained in a new procedure called the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure. Hip Resurfacing is a type of hip replacement which replaces the two surfaces of the hip joint while conserving bone. Dr. Fletcher has been named Chairman of Orthopaedics at Albany Memorial Hospital effective January 1, 2007. He is also the Medical Director of the Total Joint Center Of Excellence at AMH. He was the Chairman of the Board of the Executive Woods Ambulatory Surgery Center from September 2000 to June 2005. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of OrthoNY.
